  • About | Nemaha County Community Health Services

Nemaha County Community Health Services was founded in 1979 and has evolved to meet the needs of Nemaha County. We have continued to add programs, events, and services to make sure we are serving our community members in the best ways possible.

  • Childhood Immunizations | Nemaha County Community Health Services

Protect your child from serious diseases with recommended childhood vaccines. Learn about immunization schedules, what to expect, and how NCCHS makes vaccinations safe and accessible for all Nemaha County families.

  • Adolescent Immunizations | Nemaha County Community Health Services

Keep your teen protected with recommended vaccines for ages 11–18. NCCHS offers safe, accessible immunizations for Nemaha County adolescents, including school-required shots. Adolescent Immunizations As kids grow into teens, their immune systems—and their lifestyles—change. Between the ages of 11 and 18, certain vaccines are needed to boost protection built during childhood and to guard against new risks that come with adolescence, such as increased exposure to certain infections in school, sports, social activities, or future travel. Recommended adolescent vaccines protect against serious diseases like meningitis, whooping cough, HPV-related cancers, tetanus, and more. Some are required for school entry or college, and others—like the HPV vaccine—offer protection later in life by preventing cancer-causing infections. At NCCHS, we’re here to help your teen stay healthy, active, and protected. Our team can answer questions about vaccine safety, timing, and school requirements, and we’ll work with your family to keep your child on schedule. Call 785-284-2152 to schedule an appointment or speak with a nurse about your teen’s immunization needs. Vaccines aren’t just for little kids—protection during the teen years matters too. Tetanus, Diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) This vaccine is a booster for the childhood DTaP series. It protects against tetanus (a painful infection from cuts or wounds), diphtheria (a throat infection that can block breathing), and pertussis (whooping cough), which can cause severe coughing fits and spread easily to babies and others. It’s recommended at age 11 to keep protection strong. Learn More Human Papillomavirus The HPV vaccine protects against the types of HPV that cause most cervical cancers, as well as cancers of the throat, anus, and genitals in both males and females. It’s most effective when given at ages 11–12, but can be started as early as 9. Early protection means a lower risk of cancer later in life. Two doses are given if started before age 15; three doses if started later. Learn More Influenza The flu is more than just a bad cold—it can cause high fever, cough, fatigue, and serious complications like pneumonia. The flu shot is recommended every year to protect your child from the changing strains of the virus and to help reduce the spread in schools and communities. Learn More Meningococcal This vaccine protects against meningococcal disease, a rare but serious illness that can cause meningitis (inflammation of the brain and spinal cord) and bloodstream infections. These conditions can be life-threatening and progress quickly. A first dose is recommended at age 11 or 12, with a booster at 16 to keep teens protected during the highest-risk years. Learn More Meningococcal B The MenB vaccine protects against a rare but serious strain of meningitis that can cause brain swelling and bloodstream infections. It’s recommended for ages 16–23, especially for those heading to college or living in group housing. The vaccine adds important protection during the years when the risk is highest. Learn More COVID-19 COVID-19 can affect children of all ages and may lead to serious illness, long-term symptoms, or hospitalization. The COVID-19 vaccine helps protect your child by reducing the risk of severe illness and spread to others. Staying up to date with recommended doses keeps their protection strong as the virus evolves. Learn More

Stay protected at every stage of life with recommended adult vaccines. NCCHS offers accessible immunizations for adults in Nemaha County, including flu, shingles, Tdap, and more. Adult Immunizations Vaccines aren’t just for kids—adults need protection too. As we age, our immunity can fade, and we may become more vulnerable to serious diseases. Some vaccines are needed only once, while others require boosters over time to stay effective. Whether you're starting college, planning a pregnancy, traveling, managing a chronic condition, or simply aging into new recommendations, staying up to date on immunizations helps protect your health and the people around you. Common adult vaccines protect against diseases like tetanus, shingles, pneumonia, flu, COVID-19, and cancers caused by HPV. Some are recommended based on age, health conditions, lifestyle, or job-related risks. At NCCHS, we make it easy to know what you need and when. Our nurses can help you check your immunization status, answer your questions, and make a personalized plan to keep you protected at every stage of life. Call 785-284-2152 to schedule an appointment or talk to a nurse. It’s never too late to protect your health with the power of vaccines. Tetanus, Diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) The Tdap vaccine protects you from three serious diseases: tetanus, which can cause painful muscle stiffness from cuts or wounds; diphtheria, a throat infection that can block breathing; and pertussis (whooping cough), which causes severe coughing fits that can be dangerous for babies and others around you. Adults should get a Tdap booster every 10 years to stay protected. Learn More Pneumococcal (Pneumonia) This vaccine protects against pneumococcal bacteria that can cause pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and meningitis. It is especially recommended for adults 50 and older and for younger adults with certain health conditions to help prevent serious illness. Learn More Shingrix (Shingles) Recommended for adults age 50 and older, the shingles vaccine helps prevent shingles, a painful rash caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. Shingles can lead to long-lasting nerve pain, so getting vaccinated reduces your risk of this uncomfortable and sometimes serious condition. Learn More Influenza The flu vaccine is recommended yearly for all adults to protect against seasonal flu viruses. The flu can cause high fever, body aches, and serious complications, especially in older adults or those with chronic health issues. Getting your annual flu shot helps keep you and those around you healthy during flu season.
