Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC)
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is a federally funded nutrition program that helps support the health of pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children up to age 5. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy food benefits, and referrals to other health and social services—all at no cost to eligible families.
At Nemaha County Community Health Services, we are proud to serve as a local WIC provider. Our team is here to help families access the resources they need to grow strong and healthy. Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, or caring for a young child, WIC can help provide essential support during these important early years
WIC Eligibility
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program provides nutrition support at no cost to pregnant individuals, new parents, and families with young children.

Your household income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty level, based on household size. Many working families qualify.

4. Nutrition or Health Risk
All applicants are screened for basic health and nutrition needs during their appointment—such as low iron levels, poor weight gain, or other dietary concerns. This helps us provide the best possible support for your family's well-being.

Important Notes on Immigration
You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to receive WIC benefits. WIC services are available to all eligible residents, regardless of immigration status. Applying for WIC does not require you to disclose your immigration status, and it will not affect your immigration record or public charge status.

WIC Benefits
WIC is designed to support the health and well-being of families during pregnancy, infancy, and early childhood. Through a combination of education, guidance, and practical resources, WIC helps families make informed choices and build a healthy foundation for their children.
Healthy Food
WIC provides monthly benefits to help families buy nutritious foods that support growth, development, and overall well-being. These food packages are carefully tailored to meet the unique needs of pregnant and postpartum individuals, infants, and children up to age five. Depending on your stage and situation, benefits may include fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy, protein-rich foods, infant formula, and baby foods.

WIC food benefits are provided through an easy-to-use eWIC card that works like a debit card at approved grocery stores. Our team will help you understand how to use your card, choose eligible foods, and shop confidently. These benefits are a practical way to make healthy eating more affordable and accessible for growing families.
Breastfeeding Support
WIC offers one-on-one breastfeeding education and access to trained staff who can support you throughout your breastfeeding journey, from pregnancy through postpartum. If breastfeeding is not possible or supplementation is needed, WIC can also provide formula to ensure your baby is getting the nutrition they need.
Nutrition Education and Referrals to Outside Services
WIC provides practical, personalized nutrition education to help you make informed choices for yourself and your child. Our staff offers guidance on healthy eating, infant feeding, and meal planning tailored to your family’s needs. We also connect families with other helpful community resources and services, such as healthcare providers, immunizations, and social support programs, to ensure you have the tools and support needed to thrive.
