  • Adult Immunizations | Nemaha County Community Health Services

Stay protected at every stage of life with recommended adult vaccines. NCCHS offers accessible immunizations for adults in Nemaha County, including flu, shingles, Tdap, and more. Adult Immunizations Vaccines aren’t just for kids—adults need protection too. As we age, our immunity can fade, and we may become more vulnerable to serious diseases. Some vaccines are needed only once, while others require boosters over time to stay effective. Whether you're starting college, planning a pregnancy, traveling, managing a chronic condition, or simply aging into new recommendations, staying up to date on immunizations helps protect your health and the people around you. Common adult vaccines protect against diseases like tetanus, shingles, pneumonia, flu, COVID-19, and cancers caused by HPV. Some are recommended based on age, health conditions, lifestyle, or job-related risks. At NCCHS, we make it easy to know what you need and when. Our nurses can help you check your immunization status, answer your questions, and make a personalized plan to keep you protected at every stage of life. Call 785-284-2152 to schedule an appointment or talk to a nurse. It’s never too late to protect your health with the power of vaccines. Tetanus, Diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) The Tdap vaccine protects you from three serious diseases: tetanus, which can cause painful muscle stiffness from cuts or wounds; diphtheria, a throat infection that can block breathing; and pertussis (whooping cough), which causes severe coughing fits that can be dangerous for babies and others around you. Adults should get a Tdap booster every 10 years to stay protected. Learn More Pneumococcal (Pneumonia) This vaccine protects against pneumococcal bacteria that can cause pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and meningitis. It is especially recommended for adults 50 and older and for younger adults with certain health conditions to help prevent serious illness. Learn More Shingrix (Shingles) Recommended for adults age 50 and older, the shingles vaccine helps prevent shingles, a painful rash caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus. Shingles can lead to long-lasting nerve pain, so getting vaccinated reduces your risk of this uncomfortable and sometimes serious condition. Learn More Influenza The flu vaccine is recommended yearly for all adults to protect against seasonal flu viruses. The flu can cause high fever, body aches, and serious complications, especially in older adults or those with chronic health issues. Getting your annual flu shot helps keep you and those around you healthy during flu season. Learn More Hepatitis B This vaccine guards against a serious liver infection that spreads through blood and bodily fluids. It is recommended for adults at risk, such as healthcare workers, and for those who want to protect themselves from infection. Learn More RSV RSV is a common virus that can cause serious illness in older adults, especially those 60 and older or with chronic health conditions like asthma, heart disease, or diabetes. The RSV vaccine helps protect against lower respiratory infections, including bronchitis and pneumonia, which can lead to hospitalization. One dose is recommended for eligible adults, especially during RSV season, to reduce the risk of severe illness and complications. Learn More Human Papillomavirus The HPV vaccine protects against several types of human papillomavirus that can cause cancers of the cervix, throat, anus, and genitals. It is recommended for adults up to age 26 and for some adults aged 27 to 45 after discussing with their healthcare provider. Learn More COVID-19 The COVID-19 vaccine protects you from severe illness, hospitalization, and long-term symptoms caused by the coronavirus. It is important for adults to stay up to date with all recommended doses and boosters to maintain strong protection as the virus changes over time. Learn More

RSV The RSV vaccine helps protect babies from serious illness caused by Respiratory Syncytial Virus, which can lead to trouble breathing, especially in infants and young children. It’s especially important for newborns, premature babies, and those with certain health conditions. Getting the vaccine—either mom during pregnancy or baby after birth—helps give your baby extra protection during RSV season. Learn More Rotavirus The rotavirus vaccine protects your baby from a common virus that causes severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. It’s given by mouth, not a shot, and is only available during the first few months of life. Getting your baby vaccinated helps prevent hospital visits and keeps them feeling their best. Learn More Haemophilus Influenzae Type B The Hib vaccine protects your baby from Haemophilus influenzae type b, a bacteria that can cause serious infections like meningitis, pneumonia, and blood infections. These illnesses can be life-threatening, especially for babies and young children. The Hib vaccine helps keep your baby safe during the most vulnerable years. Learn More Inactivated Polio The IPV vaccine protects your baby from polio, a virus that can cause paralysis and even death. Although polio is rare in the U.S., it still exists in other parts of the world and can spread. Vaccinating your baby with IPV keeps them protected and helps prevent the return of this dangerous disease. Learn More Influenza The flu vaccine protects your baby from influenza, which can cause high fever, cough, body aches, and serious complications like pneumonia. Babies under 5—especially under 2—are at higher risk of being hospitalized from the flu. Getting the flu shot every year helps keep your baby safe during flu season. Learn More Varicella The varicella vaccine protects your child from chickenpox, a common illness that causes an itchy rash and fever. While chickenpox is usually mild, it can sometimes lead to serious complications like infections or pneumonia. Getting the vaccine helps keep your child safe and prevents the spread of this contagious disease to others. Learn More Meningococcal The meningococcal vaccine protects your child from meningitis, a serious infection that can cause inflammation of the brain and spinal cord coverings. This infection can come on quickly and be life-threatening. Getting the vaccine helps keep your child safe by preventing this dangerous disease. Learn More Hepatitis B The Hepatitis B (Hep B) vaccine protects your baby from a serious liver infection that can be lifelong. Because Hep B can be passed from mom to baby during birth, the first dose is recommended within 24 hours after birth. Starting the vaccine series early helps protect your baby right from the beginning. Learn More Diphtheria, Tetanus, and acellular Pertussis (DTap) The DTaP vaccine protects your baby from three serious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough). Whooping cough can be especially dangerous for infants, causing coughing fits, trouble breathing, and even hospitalization. Starting the DTaP series on time helps build strong protection early in life. Learn More Pneumococcal Conjugate The PCV20 vaccine protect your baby from pneumococcal disease, which can cause ear infections, pneumonia, meningitis, and blood infections. These illnesses can be very serious in young children, especially babies. Getting the pneumococcal vaccine helps build strong protection against these infections early in life. Learn More COVID 19 The COVID-19 vaccine helps protect your baby from getting seriously sick from the coronavirus. Even though most children have mild symptoms, some can get very sick or develop complications. Getting your baby vaccinated adds an extra layer of protection as they grow and explore the world around them. Learn More Measles, Mumps, and Rubella The MMR vaccine protects your child from three serious diseases: measles, mumps, and rubella. These illnesses can lead to complications like pneumonia, brain swelling, or birth defects if caught during pregnancy. • Childhood Immunizations | Nemaha County Community Health Services

Protect your child from serious diseases with recommended childhood vaccines. Learn about immunization schedules, what to expect, and how NCCHS makes vaccinations safe and accessible for all Nemaha County families.
